The Wissahickon: The Crown Jewel of Philadelphia

Slicing through much of Northwest Philadelphia lies a seven mile stretch of forested canyon and sparkling stream knows as the Wissahickon Valley. Nearly a million people a year visit this green oasis that was deemed worthy of preservation four years before  Yellowstone became a national park.These images published in the Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Magazine in collaboration with writer Susan Stranahan represent a year photographing with a 4x5 inch film camera.
