Up-to-the-Munute Show With Echoes of the Past

Review of Photography 18 exhibition at the Perkins Center for the Arts

Ron Tarver’s “Little House on the Drive” is a beautiful soft-focus image, purchased by the Philadelphia Museum of Art; he also received a juror’s award (from Vic Muniz). With Sharp details, the picture evokes a dreamlike quality as the trees seem to float on either side of a small guardhouse. The poetic sensibility is underscored by the warm toning of the sliver print: Mr. Tarver uses coffee to achieve the effect.
