Our Town: The Unseen Landmark

1998

These photographs represent my fascination with the ambiguity of the night. The way artificial light produced by street lights and cars reveal only what is necessary, while creating an alternate world where light and shadow become one.

In my images, I seek to reduce mid-tone ranges found in traditional black and white prints to a charcoal-like black. I feel this gives each image an unsettled energy, mimicking the feeling of both exhilaration and uncertainty as one walks the city late at night.
