We Were There is an intimate compilation of portraits and excerpts from first person short stories written by Yvonne Latty of 28 African American veterans who served in wars from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom. The exhibit was accompanied by the book, We Were There: Voices of African American Veterans from World War II to the War in Iraq was published by HarperCollins / Amistad
